Hamas has recently released a video showcasing the treatment of a 21-year-old woman who was shot in the arm, marking the first footage of an Israeli hostage held by Palestinian militants in Gaza.
The video, released by the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, depicts A young woman named Mia Shem receiving medical attention after sustaining a gunshot wound. Mia, hailing from Sderot, a town near the Gaza border, was among those abducted by Hamas militants during an attack on Kibbutz Reim on October 7. The attack claimed the lives of over 260 individuals.
Hamas releases video of Israeli-French Woman
In the video, Mia, while being treated, expresses her desire to return home to her family and emphasizes the need for a swift resolution to the situation. Her family has expressed relief upon seeing the clip, indicating their happiness.
Reports suggest that Mia holds dual Israeli and French citizenship, and Hamas may have singled her out in an attempt to portray her as a threat to foreigners. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have confirmed Mia’s detention in Gaza and are working to secure her release, along with other hostages.
Hamas, through its military spokesman Abu Obaida, has stated that they are committed to protecting foreign hostages and will release them when conditions permit. Obaida also addressed the possibility of an Israeli ground operation in Gaza, stating that Hamas is prepared to respond.
While the exact number of hostages remains uncertain, with Hamas citing practical and security challenges, efforts are underway to repatriate all individuals, including Mia, held in captivity.
