Willie, who had shared his career dreams with HollywoodLife in 2021, was only 23 years old. Tragically, one of his final Instagram posts announced an upcoming concert in London.

The news of his death was first reported by his local newspaper, Douglas Now, on Facebook, where they described him as an “extraordinary talent and a ray of light to millions.” The accident occurred around 4 p.m. in Marion County, East Tennessee. According to a preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Willie’s 2019 Jeep Cherokee collided with a tractor-trailer parked on the shoulder of a highway, as reported by NBC News.

Katharine McPhee, who performed with Willie on ‘Idol,’ expressed her sorrow on Instagram, writing, “Life is so unfair and nothing is ever promised.” She added, “God rest your soul Willie. It was a pleasure to sing with you and to know you.”

I weighed 600 pounds. When they told me that, I knew I had to focus more on my health. I went from 600 pounds to 400 pounds.”

Host Ryan Seacrest asked him how he achieved his weight loss. “My eating was a big part of it,” Willie admitted. “I have a trainer now. I’m doing better. I have no fluid.” By the time he auditioned, Willie had lost over 180 pounds. “I’m just being healthy and focusing,” he said. “If I don’t have good health, I won’t be able to sing.”

He Was Extremely Close With His Family

Willie thanked his family for helping him through difficult times. “I’m doing this for my family,” he said before the audition. “They always supported me. They were there from the beginning.” During the highlight week, Willie added: “This year has been difficult. Being in the hospital scared me a lot. I thought I wouldn’t survive. “My family helped me through it too and I’m very grateful.”
