Scottish resident Fiona Harvey vehemently denies allegations that she serves as the real-life inspiration behind the unsettling character Martha Scott in Netflix’s gripping new series, Baby Reindeer.
Living in London, Fiona has taken to Facebook to post a series of impassioned messages, aiming to clear her name and dissociate herself from the disturbing character depicted in the show.
“I want to reiterate this to Richard Gadd’s followers. I am not Martha. I am Fiona,” she firmly stated on her Facebook profile, expressing frustration over ongoing online harassment from supporters of Baby Reindeer creator Richard Gadd.
The confusion arose when The Scottish Sun suggested that Fiona, aged 58, was the ‘real baby reindeer,’ a claim she strongly denies. Adding complexity, an interview in the Daily Record with the real Martha Scott – only shown from behind – added layers of confusion, with Martha herself claiming to be a victim of online trolls.
Fiona acknowledged her connection to the Daily Record and clarified her past interactions with Gadd.

Created by comedian Richard Gadd, Baby Reindeer originated as a one-man play before evolving into a Netflix series described as “a gripping true story.”
The storyline revolves around Donny Dunn (portrayed by Gadd), a struggling comedian whose life spirals into chaos after encountering Martha Scott, a law school graduate whose obsession results in an overwhelming barrage of communications.
However, Fiona offers a contrasting view on the series, suggesting that Martha’s character is not based on real events but is a fictional creation by Gadd, infused with personal trauma and exaggerated for dramatic effect.
“Martha is not a real person. It’s Gadd who amalgamates all the alleged rape trauma he experienced into a show that constructs a fictional series. Martha is a hyperbolic character. It’s like Batman, Mickey Mouse, whatever. These characters don’t exist in real life,” she explains.
As Fiona addresses the misconceptions and defends her identity, she injects a touch of humor into her commentary, likening the characters in Baby Reindeer to those in EastEnders and Coronation Street, emphasizing their purely fictional nature.
“They resemble characters from EastEnders and Corrie. These shows aren’t really fun,” she quips, attempting to lighten the mood amidst the ongoing controversy.
Her posts also hint at potential legal action, reflecting her serious concerns about the implications of her alleged association with the series: “Netflix seems wary of everyone’s lawyers regarding this Richard Gadd show.”
In further communication, Fiona recalls her brief encounter with Gadd years ago, noting his lack of generosity during their fleeting interaction: “I never saw Gadd buy anyone a pint or do anyone a favor. I met him briefly, years and years ago.”
She also reveals the darker side of her social media experiences, sharing that she has received death threats from what she describes as “Richard Gadd supporters.”
Fiona concludes her series of messages with a poignant wish for Richard Gadd, alluding to the plush toys that may comfort him at night: “Anyway, I hope Richard Gadd enjoys a peaceful night’s sleep with all his fluffy reindeer, no doubt bought by his mother.”
According to The Sun, Fiona Harvey, formerly known as Fiona Muir, was previously accused of harassing prominent Scottish politicians, including the late Glasgow MP Jimmy Wray and the late Prime Minister Donald Dewar.
